Product: Heads-up Display (HUD) technology for sports.

We are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is an expert in the design and manufacturing of consumer electronics products and would also be able to lead a small team of mechanical engineers. The candidate will have 8+ years of experience designing custom plastic parts for consumer products plus team and engineering project leadership skills. This role will encompass a turn-key process delivering high-quality products from initial concept to volume production. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate expertise in design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) processes associated with electronic parts and injection moulding.

Key competencies include: highly experienced SolidWorks CAD user, creative problem solving and lateral thinking, ability to conceptualize, illustrate and detail mechanical assemblies, attention to detail and motivation to pursue design challenges to an outstanding resolution, team, and project leadership. The successful applicant will be familiar with rapid prototyping technologies and the functional testing and assessment that can be achieved. The successful candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to communicate effectively with management, colleagues and suppliers.

Primary Responsibilities:

Detail mechanical design, performance simulations, tooling development supervision, sampling trials, assembly trials, and reliability testing in line with the overall project plan
Own the design for manufacture (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) functions for mechanical projects
Provide both project and team leadership for mechanical design activities
Assess concept proposals for their feasibility to meet reliability and durability requirements
Provide schedule estimates for mechanical engineering tasks for entire team,including detailed monitoring and follow-up on the progress of the projects with the respective parties and project manager
Manage technical activities of any subcontractors performing mechanical design activities
Monitor the investigation and resolution of any technical issues raised through trials, testing, reviews and/or through the manufacturer
Prepare engineering documents, manuals and drawings
Prepare bill of materials and raising purchase requisition for parts and other related products
Monitor and control the project cost in line with established project budgets
Prepare reports on the progress of the projects / jobs that have been assigned
Carry out prototype builds and testing
Finalize the mechanical specifications and functional targets
Lead peer reviews of product construction and basic design

Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering
8+ years of experience designing custom plastic parts for consumer electronics
Expert in consumer product design areas such as DFM and DFA
Highly experienced with SolidWorks CAD software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to work independently and provide team and project leadership
Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator is desirable
Competent with MS Office suite
