Description - Sensor Design Engineer (Palo Alto, California)
Product: Smart thermostat and smoke & CO alarm
Nest is seeking an exceptional sensor engineer to design end to end sensing technologies, including sensor, electronics, firmware and algorithms. This individual will be a leader in multi-disciplinary development of cutting edge technology.
The work:
End to end design of sensor systems including sensor, electronics and firmware
Design, prototype, debug, and validate designs in preparation for high-volume production
Specify factory test systems and collaborate with test engineers on their implementation
Lead multi-disciplinary team (mechanical, electrical, firmware) on implementation of sensor design
Documentation of sensor design, test, and manufacturing requirements
Minimum qualifications:
BS/MS/PhD in relevant field (EE, ME, Optics, Physics) or equivalent experience
Ph.D. or 5+ years of work experience
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with optoelectronic sensors (proximity, smoke, particle counting)
Design and implementation of sensor embedded systems, both analog and/or digital
Design and test of various sensors including but not limited to: temperature, humidity, ALS, smoke, CO, PIR, and proximity
Electronic circuit design and test. Analog: signal conditioning, opamps, and filtering. Digital: SPI, I2C, and UART.
Schematic capture and PCB layout for creating proof of concept designs
Familiar with using and writing firmware for embedded processors
Manufacturing processes, testing, and calibration of high-precision, high-volume products
Data analysis and statistics using Python, Excel, or other analysis software
Ability to travel overseas for development and preparation for mass production (10-20%)
Experience developing mission critical systems a plus
