Description - Sensor Design Engineer (Palo Alto, California)

Product: Smart thermostat and smoke & CO alarm

Responsible for designing, implementing, and integrating best-in-class wireless subsystems for the wide variety of our next generation products.

The Work:

Design high performance, low power wireless subsystems.
Optimize and debug wireless performance from prototype to mass production.
Create and drive wireless test plans for mass production to ensure the most consistent, highest performing products Nest’s customers expect.
Oversee RF PCB design.
Produce and clearly communicate all wireless performance and progress to audiences from engineers to executives.

Minimum qualifications:

BA/BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years of work experience in a hardware engineering role.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience designing low-power wireless systems for consumer electronics including hands-on prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support.
Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals and wireless system design especially WLAN, Bluetooth, 802.15.4, and/or cellular.
Experience working with and managing component vendors and contract manufacturers.
Strong board-level and firmware debug skills.
Familiarity with schematic creation and PCB design.
Experience using common RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, protocol and signaling testers).
Familiarity with regulatory requirements (FCC, IC, CE, etc.) and respective certification process.
Basic understanding of antenna design methodology.
Strong technical communication skills and attention to detail.
Strong data analysis and presentation skills.
Familiarity with RF simulation tools and programming is a plus.
