Description - Product Design Engineer

Product: Smart Home Consumer Electronics

The work:

Design the architectural layout and detailed plastic and metal components of a consumer electronics product
Work with electrical engineering, ID, and marketing team members to conceptualize, define, design, build, and test new products
Make detailed 3D CAD models, search out materials, components and systems for the product
Build and troubleshoot prototypes, analyze results of reliability testing, iteratively improve the design and bring to production
Work with manufacturing partners in Asia and the U.S., including travel to manufacturing sites

Minimum qualifications:
BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
2+ years of work experience, including 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering or related technical field (e.g. Product Design)
Proficient in 3D CAD modeling
Excellent English language communication skills

Preferred qualifications:
Preferred previous industry experience designing handheld, or small home electronics products
Strong working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
Familiarity with Unigraphics NX
Hands on experience with machine shop tools
Demonstrated ability in plastic and metal design
Has strong design sense with an eye for detail
Working knowledge of structural FEA
Familiar with a myriad of manufacturing techniques and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) review and feedback for suppliers
Familiar with electromechanical assemblies: LCD’s, batteries, sensors, flexes, PCB’s, antennas, buttons, etc.
Good communicator, excellence driven, problem solver, self-starter, analytical
Mandarin language skills a plus
Thrives in chaos, obsessed with customer experience, fanatic about the details, scrappy and willing to wear multiple hats, focused on owning the end-to-end product experience, will do what it takes to get the job done, passionate about how technology can make peoples lives better
